Can you put a sheet of paper on the bottom of the cage instead of leaving bare wire? And a bowl of clean sand for grit. How big is the cage? Are the ants coming for leftover food or for water? Just trying to work out how to avoid this problem in the future.

Use Ant rid in future its available in supermarkets, apply to area just a small drop where ants are travelling on. Ant Rid has a honey taste that will attract the ants. The poison is carried back to the nest killing all the ants. If birds can access the drops cover them so only the ants can.

Coopex would be much safer.
