Hi all looking for the best time to replace my nest boxs, I removed them early June after a mixed season won a few and lost a few, breeding finches I guess.
I've had mixed feed back so far some say November some say mid Jan, a local breeder I know kicks off on Boxing Day.
Can boxes go in early Spring.
I want all to give me there date they kick off their season in Sydney and other locations. Thanks all.

Boxing day is about the right time to start the season.

Yeah, I'd go with Australia Day or according to the weather (It gets stinking hot mid Feb in Sydney and black ant activity is at it's highest) or a couple of weeks later. I would avoid Spring time as they are just about ready to start their moult, although some might be willing to breed it puts an awful lot of stress on them doing both (moulting and trying to breed).

Good luck

Ken

When I said Boxing Day I was thinking of Australia Day - Sorry. Late January is ideal in Australia.

Thanks all yep I will run with that mid to late Jan.
My only problem is they are housed with red faced, stars which are keen as spring is around the corner.
So I only have small cane style baskets no boxs but my male red headed Gouldian is trying to build a nest in one.

You may need some brush for the Stars.

Yes got the covered I have brush for the ones that like that.
My male Red headed Gouldian is carrying grass to a cane basket, I guess I will remove it to prevent them going to nest now, your thoughts.

The first of the eager beavers are looking in nests and singing to potential mates. So have done the anual sort and set up. Some first nests may be clear, but. Good luck to everyone with your Gouldians in 2019
