I was happy with the size of my Gouldian males for the breeding season, but over the last 2 weeks noticed they have become thinner and dont look so filled out. Both males in the preceeding weeks chased each over like war planes. Have other breeders noticed this when breeding Gouldians?

I notice my pairs when put out into breeding aviaries at the start of the season tend to continually fly from end to end of the aviary for a few weeks leading up to the first breeding attempt. This brings them into peak fitness, so if previously a bit on the plump side they could marginally trim down but I have not noticed a significant change in size during this time. I prefer to keep my Gouldians on a lean diet before the breeding season anyway though.

If they are getting the preparitory greens and are singing to the ladies, then they are probably just in fighting fit breeding condition.
