hi there, i was wondering, how many eggs can be fertilised by one mating,or would they have to have a mating for each egg to be fertile ? some birds like chooks can have quite a few fertilised eggs from one mating. just something i was thinking about today and wondered if anyone can shed some light on that please.
thanks

With birds, one mating will produce one fertile egg, assuming both parties are fertile. Even chooks it's one mating per one fertile egg.

David Attenborough did a really nice talk on it in the BBC Life of Birds documentaries and they showed video and pictures of all the bits and pieces, and he explained it really well.

David Attenborough did another documentary a few years ago called Attenborough's Wonder of Eggs. The link below is for the ABC in Australia and you can watch the video online for free. This documentary is just about eggs and is very in-depth. Worth a watch if you have an interest in birds or eggs. :)
