Congratulations. They and you are doing a great job. Keep the greens up to them.

Well done, there will most likely if not all double factor cocks amongst them. The cock is a double factor.

Thank you!

finchbreeder, thank you for your advice about the greens!

The truth is that every time I had tried to give my ladies something new, it has been a failure. They don´t taste it. That´s why I was staying with their usual diet, which is the mixed seeds and soft food which I make with eggs, eggs shells, and a capsule of Usana omega 3.

But I tried with minced lettuce, and they loved it!

I suppose nature tells them what the babies need, because the other couples, that don´t have babies, are not eating it, or at least that´s what I have been able to watch. Maybe they do eat it but not very much.

What else should I give them? Spinach?

Cucumber is the best salad vegetable for finches. But better still grow some of your birdseed and feed the green seed heads to them. If you do this from the time the first egg appears then the parent birds may learn to eat a healthier diet. But most important of all, the young will learn to do so. If you keep the greens up till the young are fully coloured this will improve their health and vigor. I use a wide range of "weed seeds" but do not know which weeds in your part of the world are safe. You could photograph weed seeds and put on here and some of the members may be able to identify safe ones for you. You and they appear to be doing well regardless.
