Unusual baby canary

Hi to all you that have canaries,I have pair of yellow Spanish rollers,that have popped out an unusual colour baby, this is there second lot of babies and ones skin was black,will this make any difference to the feathers as it grows,thanks for any info ,peter.

Are the parents completely yellow? From the chick they should have a feather or two of dark green/brown feathering each. Re the chick what Elf said.

Yes parents completely yellow, is this a gene throw back or something like that.

I am assuming they are completely seperate from any other canaries in their own breeding cage?

By a process of elimination it has to be a genetic thowback then. Most unusual. But my mother had something similar 18 months ago with some budgies.

It's normal for canaries and other birds to produce offspring that are like the parents and also like the grandparents or great grandparents. Generally the birds with pink bodies will be yellow or white, and the black skin is usually a green bird (green, brown feathers).

It's nothing to worry about and is completely normal.
