Of course you could buy another mask for less than the cost of a post mortem. But what happens when the next one dies, and it spreads to other birds and you still don't know what has caused it?

It's only by people following these things up that you can workout what is happening in your own aviary, but it also allows us to build up a body of knowledge on diseases and nutrition and their effects on our finches. These things just don't appear in a book. Someone has to pay for it but in many cases much of the extra work is done for nothing by both vets and vet pathologists in the spirit of science and furthering understanding.

And before anyone mentions it, no I will not be doing the next finch post mortem for nothing "in the spirit of science" ;)
