Hi
I have a male orange cheek that has got serious issues.
He looks like something is affecting his balance, not all there in the head and at times he will fly backwards.
When i caught him up,he was very light.
Thinking it could be megabacteria or maybe its a simple knock to the head with possible brain damage.
There is also another male orange cheek in a different cage that's around 8 years old that's got similar issues, which i thought might have lost the plot because of his old age.

Hope somebody might have an idea on what it could be.

Dave

Symptoms you describe sound like stargazing/twirling in gouldians

WARNING CAN BE DISTRESSING TO WATCH
Link to several videos of Gouldians showing various degrees of these symptoms to see if its the same in your bird.

Article re diagnosis and possible treatment

There is of course differing opinions on causes and treatment, some say its a hereditary condition, others congenital, yet others say it some thing that can be caught or acquired.

I would be getting a faecal sample looked at.

Good luck.

Hi there many year ago I had a blue Gouldian finch with this type of simpton,i took it the vet and they said this bird had a stroke, they gave me some medication for the bird to give for 72 hour and if there was no change to put the bird down and do test on it,i return the bird back to person I bought them and me place with new one,he vet put it down and did test on it and found nothing wrong, all they came back to me and said bird was look after pretty good, the twirl was from centre nerous system of the brain cause electric shock in the nerous system when it started stress, but I don't think you need a faecal sample at all in my opiinion.

Cheer from Mr Tino
