Hi all
I think we have lice ?
I thought our cordon babies came out of the nest abit early , the parents moved them to a bigger nest rather than the hanging cocoanut . Now I notice the parents scratching a lot as if something is biting them & picking under there wings .
Does this sound like lice ?
How can I kill them without harming the finches ?

If this is lice rather than just a normal preening action.

There are sprays available to treat the birds but all of the aviary would need to be treated too to stop re-infestation. If this were my aviary I would be moving the birds to a cabinet or cage for a short time while treating them for the lice.
While the birds are being treated I would completely clear out the aviary, removing everything that isn't nailed down and treating everything with either a spray or powder (Coopex)
Renew everything you can such as branches and treat everything else.
Im sure others will have more ideas too.
