They will eat bones.Ones that have been dried and outside for years.maybe from lizards,roos,snails,etc.Maybe also from alive bugs etc.I know some parrot breeders feed there birds cooked chicken bones.

I bet it happens a lot in the wild Mick...A bird on the ground all fluffed up and unable to fly would be predated very quickly.I doubt you would ever see it even if you had a flock in your back garden.(Especially not in yours with all that junk )
