Hey all,
Starting to breed and feed mealworms to my finches such as cordons and parrot finches but upon researching, the calcium to phosphate ratio is pretty crap - could this be overcome by placing shell grit, cuttlebone, egg shells, etc? Thanks!

Can be slightly improved by feeding the mealworms pollard rather than bran & also feeding juvenile mealies to the birds rather than the mature ones. Both of these slightly improve the nutritional value of mealworms. Mealworms are not ideal livefood for Cordons but certainly better than none.

And it is always a good idea to have cuttlebone and eggshells available to the birds. Because they, hopefully, know what they need and will take it. If not add a canary to teach them to.
