We breed heaps of maggots for our finches and even our canaries eat them, Wondering if they should be fed to gouldians

Gouldians do not seem to be interested in live food, just lots of greens. But why not give them a small quantity about the time the chicks hatch. If you have heaps, you are losing nothing and potentialy boosting the chicks.

My immature Gouldians were curious about meal worms until the novelty wore off, the adults watched the proceedings with disinterest. I discontinued the supply after a week or so, as it was largely being wasted. As FB says they are much more interested in greens and seeding grass heads.

My Gouldians will eat termites, but maggots would be not much interest to them
Thanks

Putting lots of greens in and a few maggotts amoungst the greens when the chicks hatch and again when the chicks fledge can not hurt if you have lots. They may or may not get in the habit of eating them. And if they do as young ones they may or may not then feed their own young on them. It is an experiment that you can try if you have lots. Then let us all know how it goes.

As per Noah's comments, I find my Gouldians love termites and actively compete against the Ruddies, Orange Breasts and King Quail for them!!!

If you give maggots to any pet birds, make sure the maggots have been cleaned well before offering them to the birds.
