Hi

Im situated in the Sutherland Shire Sydney, is there anywhere around you can collect whiteants?

What do i look for?

Are all white ants the same?

( :( lost two youg ruddies for lack of live food and i know the birds :( i have were reared on Ants - Found them kicked out of the nest )

There are many different types off termites.wheather finches eat them all i cant say.The ones around here in trees i would not feed to my birds,for that reason and also i could never keep them up to them.

you want the the ones that have the clay coloured mound. you need to dig out the whole nest or else the buggers will be throug your car in no time trying to rebuild the nests. have you tried maggots.....pete

I use to use white ants years oga and found it to be a hassel, mine get magots and meal worms and they took to the meal worms quickly and a lot easier

Are Maggots hard to setup?

Can you erect the setup in the Aviary?

I think i will need to read up on these Maggots.
(Not keen on Mealworms atm)

Lukec,I have just started with Magots.And find it easy about five minutes a day at the most is all that is required once set up.Check out link.

Na the Maggots will be for the Aviaries at my parents place.

I would love to see the look on the Neighbours face if they new i were breeding Maggots on the Balcony of the Unit.

Termites have long been accepted to be closely related to cockroaches and mantids, and they are classified in the same superorder (Dictyoptera). Strong evidence suggests termites are highly specialised wood-eating cockroaches. ... Although termites are sometimes called "white ants"
