What is Lactated Ringers Solution ?

I see it used as a hydrating fluid for birds in overseas forums a lot .

Ive never seen it available in Australia .

And what about Pedialyte which is for little kids when they are dehydrated ?

You can get lactating ringers from the chemist, it's used for colicy babies look in the baby care area

Good to know these things in case of an emergency ...I did ask last year about the Ringers but the chemist had never heard of it .
Will look in the baby section .

The Pedialyte is readily available .

Gotta say I do love my Spark . I use it for any bird that is travelling , a bit crook or shocked even when I'm moving birds to a different aviary they get a dose of Spark .

Birds I sell go with a small bottle of Spark in water too.

In Australia lactated ringers solution is more commonly known as Hartmann's Solution.
Just about every vet will have bags of it because it is commonly used for placing IV fluids into dogs & cats. It is also used in human medicine for the same reason.

Thanks Myzo , I cant recall what I was after the Lactated Ringers for , something to do with a hand reared chick I think .

It seems to work well in most instances for stressed birds eg after and before transport, or those that are unwell and need a quick energy boost as well as rehydration.

would this recipe work as well...........

4 tbls. of boiling water
1 tsp. of golden syrup
pinch of salt (sodium chloride)
pinch of no salt (potassium Chloride) (not salt is a salt subsitute)

I have used this for years on other animals.

thats the same recipe i use bluejay works well
