No doubt. But when there is a choice of A or B and they are both ordinary, and you live over 400kms from the city or any town near as big as you.

I understand that distance is a problem but at times you can try to solve it.
The grower I get my basic seed from lives 175 kms away.
The Red Millet comes from above Sydney 700 kms away
To get true Yellow Pannicum 3 of us purchased a ton from a Queensland grower 1750 kms away
Non of the suppliers deliver it is pickup of sort your freight yourself.
If your seed is so bad in WA get some people together and freight it across from the east coast.
A pallet of seed (50 bags)at say $40 per bag, freight is a guess but I can't see a pallet costing any
more than $500 which adds $10 per bag. Result good quality seed at $50 per bag.
The more seed the cheaper it would be. I am sure i know of at least one grower who would assist.

Has been done sporadically. By groups of the bigger breeders, with some of us "littlies" tagging on. But every time there is a drought, it starts all over again. Appreciate the suggestions and will keep doing the best we can with grabbing stock between us on rare trips to the city. And talking to growers. Even considered buying a place and doing a sow/seed/supply deal with a neighbouring farmer. Unfortunately that was about the time Covid hit.

A few years ago I visited and took seed samples of about >12 different finch mixes and I have samples of these
the finch mixes vary and i have fund some suppliers put in things like linseed and oats - things you probably don't want.
I am also able to source plain straight seeds as well.

the suppliers i have visited are:-
1. Baker Seed Company
2. Salce Seeds
3. Peter Gibbs Stock Feeds
4. Maxi Seeds
5. Ian Hendy
6. Golden Cobb
7. Avi Grain
8. and some farmers direct
9. Howard Martin Seeds

some of the suppliers make better mixes with less "rubbish" in the them than others.
some are struggling to get plain seeds from time to time.
the mixes vary.

I can vouch that Maxi seeds have the cleanest seed I can find, when also comparing the mix you require.
feel free to contact me directly - I am not in this for profit. and i am happy to point you in the right direction.
