are people picking the blue-billed firefinch instead of the red-billed by mistake?

i wasn't aware that blue-billed fire finches were still in this country....

be nice if it could be organised between the states for the correct names to be used. save a lot of confusion and also help to eliminate cross-breeding

part of it is australians obsession with shortening everything and adding a "Y" on the end...

admittedly there's little point calling them red-billed firefinches, when in australia we have only one firefinch species. but calling them "ruddies" is an exclusively australian name which is entirely unknown elsewhere.

i'm happy to just call them firefinches from now on.....;)
