Is there any way of telling roughly how old a finch is? I was given a pair of painted finches and have no idea how old they are (they were both very sick when I was given them). The male seems very lethargic and sleeps alot, and is not well feathered. I know what a sick finch looks like, and am wondering whether its just old age? Any comments very welcome. I have had the birds about 1 year now.

Thanks :)

Pretty hard to tell, they just get a old look to them somtimes!!

When posible buy birds from someone you know,or buy ones finishing moulting to be sure of the age.If not posible as soon as young are breed from them, move them on after breeding season, unless you want a retirement village for finches.

Treat them both for coccidia and worms if you havent already.

Yeah they kind of have that "old look" to them! I am pathetic and get attached to certain birds. Having a retirement village is fine by me, which I think is my problem. I seem to get lumped with "sick old birds". I love bringing them back to health so I guess I ask for these issues...
Thanks
