I reckon they would pending colours,white or pied would be very conspicuous? to predators and your local sparrows, honeyeaters etc.
I think it is also illegal to release caged birds even natives though i once thought of releasing Double Bars many years ago before licensing in Vic. :o

Unless the birds are totally free of any mutation genes then you couldn't even consider releasing them or any other specie.
To release birds that may look normal but split to a mutation is basically avian terrorism.

I have never and would never do it. Give them to a local kid of 8/11yrs with the parents permission and get another future birdo started. But have heard far to many rumours of it happening round here for at least 1 to be true.

On the subject of releasing aviary bred birds this Java Finch has been hanging around
my place with the local Tree Sparrows for at least 5 weeks now.Have no idea where it came from.

Thanks for the replies. I hadn't thought about the mutation issue. I definitely won't be releasing and am glad I asked.

One of my Javas got out in the Northern suburbs a few weeks ago. He could have headed your way branchez!

A gouldian was hanging around my place for a couple days then flew Of and it looked like a crow got it.....
50 Zebras 6 different mutations 1 pair of Cordon Bleus 1 pair of Gouldians 30 King and Button Quail 6 pairs of Society Finches a pair of double bar finches a pair of Red browed Finches a pair of diamond doves and 2 pairs of red faced parrot Finches.
Hoping to get turquoise parrots tri coloured parrot Finches diamond firetails and more Zeb mutations
