Yes, it is a very nice bird, looks great in the sun - the lilac is shimmery.

Re opening an old topic I know. But hoping to better understand this situation. If I have a Lilac/mauve breasted bird and she goes to a white breasted cock, are you saying the young will be "dirty white"? She and her sisters are all uniform Lilac/mauve breasted - breeders knowledge of genetics zilch. Just bought her, and she is split AY with a huge AY white chin spot.

If the hen is a lilac (single-factor), my guess is that you would get some lilac/dirty white and some clear white-breasted young as lilac is usually dominant to white-breasted. With hens, it is often difficult to positively identify lilacs as the natural variation in breast colour intensity which is marked among Gouldian hens could make it very difficult to discern between a weak coloured normal hen (natural variation) and a lilac hen (mutation).

This hens breast is distictly lighter than anything else I or the breeder had/have. Time will tell - I hope.

arthur this is a great reference, so after looking at the chart , if I cross a normal pb (possibly split to white breast) and a df white breast and after raising say 10 young it would be safe to say that, if I dont throw any df white breasts, that the normal pb is in fact normal and not a split.

Just found this question . .

Would never be '100% safe' to say that . . But obviously the more normal looking that are produced, without a white-breast, the more 'likely' that presumption becomes

But . . it will be '100% safe' to say that every one of those young WILL be split to White-Breast

Lets help Snapper20 with some maths :P
Assuming the chances of breeding a normal looking bird from that combo is 1 in 2, the chance of breeding 10 normal birds is 1 in 1052

So would you call a 1 in 1052 chance of being wrong "safe" ?

Cheers
Brett

Let's help Shnapper and Brett with some maths . .

The probability of its being a split would be 1 in 1 024

Improbable enough for me . . but not quite 100%

Although, I'd love to be as sure of winning Tatts . .
