Hi

New to keeping finches. Just wondering if anyone can tell me if i need a license to keep Blue Faced Parrot finches, Ruddies and Cordon's in Queensland.

I rang the department today and did not get much out of them. They sent a list which had some birds list as Exempt ,controlled, restricted etc. But not all birds are listed.

I thought this would have been quite simple to find details about.

Regards

Brad

Hi Brad, i'm not sure about BF but i am pretty sure they off licence in all other States. It was proven that the BF in our aviaries originated from New Guinea or other Islands so not a native specie.
The others you have are foreign species and no licence is required but check to see what native species require a licence in your State.
Imo, get a basic licence now just in case the "bug" really bites you and you see something native that requires a licence that you would like to keep and breed down the track.
If you are able, join the Qld Finch Society. Craig
