Hi all,

Just wondering what each member's favourite Aussie finch is and why. No particular reason why Im asking other than curiosity :) and if you could, are you able to post your experience with them e.g. diet, requirements, breeding etc. I'm running out of info to read on!

Cheers

If you put this in search you will find it has been done before.
Double Bars, nice quiet but lively personality.
Painteds, always quiet and easy going and reasonably easy to breed.
Gouldians, Colour says it all.
Zebs, personality and genetics.

Painteds - placid, tame, attractive, hardy, free breeder, unique nesting habits & courtship display. Prefers dry aviary (+ climate & diet), low live food requirement, low nest sites. Ok as single pairs or small colony.

blackhearts & painted.
Painted because they use to follow me around the aviary making funny pinball machine noises. I couldn't work out where it was coming from the first few times but it was hilarious when I worked it out.

Blackhearts (WA shaft-tail) because they breed so easily in colonies and are hilarious when it comes to spotting snakes and lizards.
I went out to the aviary one day and every blackheart was sitting on one perch at the end. They were all looking at the ground, classic heads down bums up scenario. And they were all making this beep beep noise. I walked over to them and a few looked over to me then looked back down and more beep beep noises. I looked down and there was a bobtail lizard (shingleback) outside the aviary just sunbathing and warming up. But the birds knew it was there and gave it a hard time. It was hilarious to watch and went on for over half an hour :) Meanwhile most of the other birds didn't give a hoot and simply went about their own business.
