I have a 4m x 4m aviary with 8 Gouldians 4 Black Hearts 3 Diamond Firetails. Set this up April.
The Diamonds are sitting on eggs which I think have hatched and the Black Hearts are fiddling around in and out of the boxes.
Gouldians have done nothing just sniffed around the boxes. Are the other two species too much for the Gouldians and upsetting their breeding ?

Hi Steve,
Gouldians in Adelaide are just about to start moulting. You shouldn't expect them to start breeding until February.

In the wild, black hearts/ shaft tail finches will bully gouldians and take over their nests so make sure there are lots of nests at the same height so the birds can all have one. In captivity this behaviour will also continue to a lesser degree and can slow or inhibit some birds from breeding.
Feed the birds a variety of foods including plenty of green grass seeds. They need lots of nutrition when moulting.

I have been feeding mashed up eggs and now have added Passwell Finch Soft food which is an insect supliment. They also get meal worms but seems only the Black Hearts eat them not so much Diamonds.
Of course they get soaked seed and greens every day.

Agree with Rod. You could also try a nest box with a spout for the gouldians aslong as you can get two fingers down it the gouldians will also. This should discourage the longtails from these boxes.Worth a try if your having issues.
