Star finches?

Here in Adelaide I’ve seen a few shops selling yellow or orange face star finches.
They are quite an attractive bird to my eye.
Just wondering if anyone has much experience or advice on their suitability in a mixed aviary.?

Recently stocked my aviary with :
2 Male Zebras
1 Pair Emblemas
1 Pair Gouldians
1 Male Canary
1 Pair King Quail

I’d like to,complete it with a Pair of Star finches.
Will they be compatible from a temperament point of view?

Stars should be fine with the above species imo so long as your aviary is big enough to accommodate them all. Craig

They have an excellent temperament and will get along with your birds just fine.

They do have a tendency to attack plants, so keep that in mind if you're going to try to grow anything in the aviary.

Cheers for the replies.

Currently Ave and advanced Asplenium nidus which have a very tough frond.

You should get a female canary and a couple of female zebra finches too.

I'd keep it as two male zebs. Two pairs would outbreed everything else and quickly overpopulate the aviary.

Yep that’s the plan.

Don’t want to breed ( rabbit like) Zebras , and Male canary is for the song.

If anything it’s the quail I’d like to see procreate.
I love those busy little guys.

I think the avairy is full enough without female Zebs and canarys. Or even Stars. Quail are usually pretty easy to breed, just make sure the bottom of the avairy is not plain concrete.

Yes, after observing them over the past week I think that I’ve probably reached the peak number for the birds comfort.
I’ll give the stars a miss.
Aviary floor is a paved base with a habitat built on top from sand and loam. Plenty of cover and material for them to scratch about in.

Sounds good. My quail like a bit of dry grass to shape the sides of the nest hollow in the sand. Enjoy.
