I know! People just think birds are as domesticated as dogs and cats. "Oh, just seed and water, two birds in a tiny cage, voila, birds bred."

I absolutely hate what bird breeding is viewed as in society.

I write bird keeping and breeding articles for the local paper, and I overheard someone saying 'Backyard Breeders, more like Backyard Inbreeders'
And I am telling you now I was fuming

We really need someone like don burke to popularize aviculture again.

I second that

I mean, people look at me very weirdly when I say I like breeding birds.

We need a TV shows like better homes and gardens and Vasilis garden and other shows like that to promote aviculture, because I guess if a big TV campaign came up, could you imagine some of the idiots with big money buying the rarest of the rare, without really giving a stuff of their needs.
People who would watch shows like the suggested ones, obviously are not the every day people, they are the type usually that would appreciate the little things in life, would take their time, and like to be proud of breeding something as dainty as a Ruddy or a painted. And not to mention, an aviary can really jazz up a garden thats for sure

I absolutely agree!! If Better Homes and Gardens can promote beekeping (like they did a few weeks ago), surely they can promote birdkeeping. Or even a brand new show for birdkeeping.

Did better homes are gardens do something on birds, what did they do??
