Sad that on "The Chase" yesterday the only birds the contestants could think of when asked what variety of birds " Gloster and Red Factor" were, were parrotts, budgies and weerios. Duh folks, think Canaries.
The profile of finches needs lifting. Can we get Chris Hemsworth and Matt Damon to build finch avairies at Byron Bay?
Because the tourism over here on the West Coast has improved since they were photographed holidaying here.

As soon as someone famous gets into something, a lot of people want to join in. There was something in the US where there was a TV show and the star of the show had a pet Cockatoo, so then everyone wanted a Cockatoo. Maybe as mentioned, someone like Costa or Dr Harry or someone like that owning a backyard TV show, did something on putting aviaries in to add an Aesthetic value to your garden and mental state and what not, a lot of people would catch on. You need a spark to start a fire. And when some people check out some of the beautiful planted aviaries people have, with pretty well their own little habitat inside, a lot would start foaming at the mouth anxiously wanting one

I know! I do despise seeing cockatoos kept as house pets though.

They'd do better off in an aviary where they can fly.

It's quite funny how cockatoos are ridiculed to bite peoples' fingers off in america when kept as pets, but the wild cockatoos I feed have actually become quite tame and a few I can hand-feed.

I guess all bird keepers have their phases

So in NSW anyone breeding and selling birds is now classified as a Pet Shop

That all happened last year and the outcome was in favour for bird keepers. Sam Davis is an Admin / Moderator on here as well as a Government advisor for bird breeders. He was also the President of the Finch Society of Australia at the time. The couple years before that he and others fought ridiculous pet laws that Victoria tried to force upon us bird breeders. Qld was next but i'm sure they have sorted out things for the future.
