Any tips on sexing Bengalese please?

Hi Laurie, Bengalese are very hard to sex just by looking at them. Keep an eye on which ones are singing and hopping about—those are the males.

Other than Shanes comment check under the bottom mandible where it meets the feathers. In males it is ( , in hens it is V shape and the bill is usually narrower than the cock bird.

I have been taught the art of 'vent sexing' of birds, which is very handy, especially for double bars
Hold the bird on its back and put your finger on its ventral region, males in the area usually have a bump, whereas the females are flat
If you look also, in cock birds the vent is closer to the tail, whereas the females is closer to their legs
It a bit of an art to learn, but once you get the hang of it nothing can stop you

The bump in the cocks can be nothing more than the hen if they are out of condition though. Just did my canaries, and Mr always frisky has no bump to speak of. And he is a proven cock.
