Hi everyone, has anyone breed green singers before. Any info would be helpful like can they breed in flight cages or aviary etc etc
I have a pair and this year would be the first year to attempt to breed them .
There two years old .
Also do they have to be own there own or can I mix them with gouldians.
Thank you

Hi Biiturk,
I have some experience with Singers but not sure if they are ok with Gouldians. The pair I had were on their own in a small walk-in aviary and did very well. They are cup nesters, just like canaries. The reason they were on their own was due to aggression by the cock bird, he was very territorial and wouldn’t let any other birds near the nest so I moved them to be on their own. This is just my experience and I know others have been successful with them in a mixed aviary. Good luck.

Have never had them. But understand that most cup nesters can generally be kept by the same rules as canaries. There will however always be the pair that vary. Good luck with them.

Not too sure where you are but here in Adelaide the best time is late August, early Sept. They will breed all through Spring and early summer but don’t wear the hen out and stop them when the weather gets too hot. Hope you have not missed the boat! Good luck with them.

Although I have provided cup nests to my Singers, they have only used plastic box-like receptacles (converted cutlery containers) . They did not breed for me in a suspended enclosure, but went straight to nesting when introduced to an aviary. They happily co-exist with Ruddies, Silverbills and Orange Breasts , so I think that it's unlikely that Gouldians would be a problem for them.

Thanks starman but has your green singers were ever on there own from the beginning before introducing them with other finches ? Mine have been on there own since purchasing them one year ago. Also Worse case Scenario I’ll remove the gouldians out of the Avery if the green singers get too Aggressive

Yes they were on their own in the small enclosure. They show no aggression to any of their current inmates.
