Needing advice on using Moxydectin Plus - although I have used it for years, I just purchased some via this site and it stated on the bottle that it shouldn't be used when there is unfeathered young in the nest. It's near impossible to know what's in the nests in the planted aviary at present, so should I or should I not, use it?? Looking forward to advice, thanks in advance :)

I've always used it regardless of whether there are chicks in the nest or not.

In your case Kaz, I think an estimate would be fine

Cheers, I'll take the chance before the Gouldians really get fired up :)

If you have used it in the past without problems that's a pretty good indication - just do what you have always done.

I was advised by a veterinary supplier not to give 'Moxy +' to Gouldians. This was quite a few years ago, so since then Gouldians get 'Moxi' , the others get 'Moxy +'. I am unsure of the efficacy of this, but follow their advice, regardless.

What are you treating?
You should only be using medications if the birds are sick. If you are deworming birds, try to do it before they breed or after the young fledge. Exposing baby birds to any chemicals is not really good for them.

I have been using moxi plus for years without any problems. I think the unfeathered young bit is just a manufacturist cover. Do not overdose as the plus is prazi' meant for tapeworms of which gouldians rarely get as they not big livefood eaters but if they are in a mixed collection of finches they can become infected by eating tapeworm eggs expelled from other varieties of finches.
The dose for moxi plus is 6ml/ltr of water which is way under the toxic level finches and their young.

Craig, on the bottle it says 5ml per litre, not 6

Apologies for my lack of knowledge, but what is Moxydectin Plus and what is it used for?
