Hi everyone, for the past week I've noticed one of my yellow siskin cock making funny clicking noises every time he tries to sing . His still very active and eats like a machine but like I said everytime he tries to whistle he makes a gasping or clicking sound. Could he have lung mite and if so how did he get it . I haven't introduced any new birds and this cock I produced from my own stock .

Canaries and the siskin family are prone to airsac mite so you need to treat for it. Moxidectin is the most common treatment used for the condition. Contact your local produce pet store or Vet for medications and directions for use.

I've got some now . I just started the dosage . I'm just wondering how he got it in the first place ? Does it come from the air around them ?

Could be from wild birds landing on the rooves of your avairies. Particularly if they can poo into the avaires.

Yeah, I got it in my aviary from a group of wild introduced turtledoves before I roofed it. Fully roofed aviaries shouldn't be a problem.

Ok that makes sense. I did have wild doves landing on the aviary a month ago. The meds started to kick in , the cock not making clicking noises and he just started to whistle again .cheers everyone
