Is it possible to selective breed mutated Gouldians back to pure normals. ie eliminate any mutations

In theory. Just as in theory if you start with 100% and remove 10%, and continue to do so you will eventually wind up with 0% But of course it does not happen. By removing every visable mutation you will Possibly wind up with pure normals. But you can not guarantee it. Because recessive genes only show if put to recessive genes. And even then they do not always show. Like the person who had a recesive bird show up in their stud of pure birds. Then, because they were an avid record keeper, went back through the records. 5 Generations back the parents had a mutual ancestor, that had been bought in as a pure bred.

Much easier to start with stock of know genetics.
There are a few people in Perth who have them ;-)

It is good to see more people are looking at true to form normal Gouldians. I’m concentrating on pure red & yellow heads as Brett said there are a few in the Perth and Mandurah area’s
