Hi everyone,
I have brought a pair of yellow body stars from a breeder. Just wondering what the breeding expectation is of you breed a male yellow body to a normal hen and vice versa. Or to achieve the colour they are best housed together as the one pair.

It will become very complicated as there are two different mutations involved with the yellow bodied star. One is sexlinked and the other autosomal recessive. Fawn is the autosomal recessive one where all young produced will be split for fawn. Sexlinked one is cinnamon where all young will be split fawn, cocks will be split fawn and split cinnamon and hens will be either normals split for fawn or cinnamons split for fawn. Bit mind boggling so you need to read up on the two different mutations and how it affects body colour. You can breed yellow body to yellow body but the results won't always be yellow body young. To do this you need to add new unrelated yellow body blood down the track to keep up strength and vigor.

Yes it is, the visual result of the two mutations expressing them self in one bird but to get it you need to understand the modes of inheritance of the two mutations. A fawn has a red tail/rump and a cinnamon pink tail/rump in single mutations.
