Has anyone heard of or know if a yellow body star can have a yellow head ? I have seen them only in the red head form?

Short answer is yes . .

Long answer is that all mutations of stars can be combined

You should be starting to learn the simple steps towards a knowledge of basic genetics

It is a simple, mechanical, and logical area . . but you do have to make the effort . .

Yes but imo the red head looks better than the yellow head against the yellow body.

Agreed.

With a lot of the all-yellow mutations (stars, gouldians, cubans, parrotfinches), I sometimes think people are working way too hard to just re-invent the canary.

Good to know I like the red better just wondering if it was possible.

Thanks everyone for the reply. It’s very interesting learning about the genetics of the mutations of finches. Thanks Arthur I have been making a effort to learn more about this topic. I just have a lot of questions and wanted to learn more about different mutations and if people have bred a particular colour.

My suggestion is that you learn the mechanics of the 3 basic 'types' of inheritance first and worry about which birds belong to which 'type' later . .

These '3 types' of mutation cover ALL bird mutations . . from 'Tom-Tits to Turkeys'
