In answer to Pete's question you do not need a license for the following native birds in NSW. As with most things in Australia I assume it varies from state to state.
* sulphur-crested cockatoo
* galah
* little corella
* long-billed corella
* western corella
* cockatiel
* red-collared lorikeet
* scaly-breasted lorikeet
* musk lorikeet
* rainbow lorikeet
* Port Lincoln parrot
* twenty-eight parrot
* hooded parrot
* red-rumped parrot
* red-capped parrot
* princess parrot
* bourke's parrot
* elegant parrot
* scarlet-chested parrot
* Adelaide rosella
* eastern rosella
* pale-headed rosella
* yellow rosella
* western rosella
* budgerigar
* bar-shouldered dove
* diamond dove
* emerald dove
* peaceful dove
* common bronzewing
* crested pigeon
* brown quail
* king quail
* stubble quail
* little button-quail
* painted button-quail
* blue-faced parrot-finch
* Gouldian finch
* painted finch
* star finch
* zebra finch.

Framed.
Enjoy every sandwich

thanks framed, dont u ever sleep bud,ha
just got my old permit books out, seems i got rid of my permitted birds in 1995, things have changed a bit, hope the hired help has also, i used to love it when they came for a visit, in my real big aviary they had no chance of counting the birds, but they liked it.
just applied online for my rec license, so see how long it takes,
we used to be able to keep up to 5 birds before applying for a license, does that still apply? each state will be diff of course, sometimes it seems like we live in a totally diff country ay, with regards to " u can have this here but not there, u need a permit in this state but not that one"
and the list from framed will be diff in most other states
ive been looking for the exempt list for Qld, will have to keep looking
cheers

I have had this before when i bought some birds from NSW that were not on permit and the person had no licence. EPA told me to get there name and address and that is all i needed as long as this is done and your details are right , everything is fine. As for Controlled i would say that would be restricted birds and commerical would have to be shops
Cheers
