Hello all, I am new here. We are hobby breeders in Sydney. We have three aviary's full of gouldians. My husband loves to build avairy's. Just wondering though if anyone can help me, I looked in the nest box this morning to check out some of our baby's and was suprised by the colourings that I saw. The parents are; Cock:Red Head, white breast, green and the Hen: Yellow head, white breast, green. We do not have any blues at all but I'm wondering if maybe, just maybe we have somehow bred some. This is what I seen
Cant wait to see what happens to them, very excited at the moment because we've always wanted blues
Are these blue babies, pics from nest

hi their mel
they look like blues to me baby blues are werro grey u sould get red headed white breasted blue backs and green back .
the green back babys could also be split blue
the parents would have to be split blue breeding from this pairing
25% blue back
50%normal split blue25% normal

I dont have blues myself.but they appear blue.I would say you are very lucky.the parents must be split to blue. And they are a fine looking bunch.

Arghhh, thankyou all. I'm ecstatic with excitement. Yet I don't want to get too excited just in case they molt out normal. Wow I can't believe we've stumbled across a blue gene without even knowing.
I've only just found this website when I was googling blue baby's but now I've found it i think I will be frequenting it quite often.
Thanks again all, can't wait to show my husband when he gets home.

No problem, here's some quick pics I took with my phone. This first one has a garden shed as their breeding area, it's safe, warm, and free from breezes. Then they have the open flight area. We have lemongrass growing in there and millet sprays. The lemongrass gives off huge seeding which they absolutely love.
this is some babies from the above aviary
the mother of these babies is a normal and here's the father
Here's a second and third avairy. It is split in the middle to form 2 seperate aviary's. We've considered making an opening between the two but the breeding in each cage is going well so don't want to disturb them. The left side is where the possible blue babies are. The photo was taken very late in the day so there's no sunshine going in and as a result looks very dark.
Sorry think I got a bit snap happy
