Hi
Just been reading mickp's section on Australian finches...very interesting.

Just wondered if there is a written standard for different species of birds, like the Kennel Club has for dogs

from what I have been able to find out there is no standard for finches, other than zebras.
the main things that are looked for in finches are:
condition of the bird, is fit & healthy, all feathers are in place, color markings and bird has good posture when sitting on a perch. the size of the bird should not come into consideration, having said that I need to clarify it. the size of a finch should be similar to that of a wild bird.

in the UK they apparently do have a standard for zebras & societies, but as there are so many different species and sub-species of finches all they look for is what I mentioned previously

I was asking because one of the male gouldians I have sometimes carries his tail at an upward angle when compared to the others, hence his name of Wonky
I was just wondering if this is a glaring fault :o and he shouldnt be bred from.
