I can remember Sergio Casagrande aviaries selling Lavender finches for $2000 a pair back in 1981. As we know they are no longer available in Australia.

Would be interesting to hear other stories regarding species that have disappeared from aviaries in Australia. Will Green Avadavats and others g the same way.

There have been two recent topics on lavenders.

This thread ( viewtopic.php?f=152&t=13715&p=128214&hi ... er#p128214 ) links to the other one.

If you use the search function you can find many stories about green strawbs, and about many other birds which have dwindled or disappeared over the last thirty-odd years.

We had Russell Kingston as a guest at one of our Waxbill Finch Society meetings about 3 years ago, i asked Russell what percentage of bird species had been lost that were previously available and he said it must be at least 80%. I have just posted a pic of some of my Lavenders in the Foreign Finch section.
