I don't think so. The department of Health says the whole plant is poisonous to humans so I'm pretty sure it is to birds too.

This might help with some suggestions.
Echiums - a very diverse family of plants including pattersons curse.
So you might want to be a bit more specific.

Thanks for the replies.
Couldn’t see it listed so wasn’t sure. Have heaps in the garden!

That link above says that johnson grass is toxic, and I certainly know that's not true as I and many other breeders in my area use it regularly to feed finches and many other sources say to use it for seeding grass.

I would strongly advise to NOT grow Echiums in the aviary
Anyway, I doubt the plant would become any use to the finches anyway for nesting, eating etc
Going with Melaleuca Varieties and Australian native grasses like Purple Fountain Grass are always the best options

Other favourites of mine to plant in an aviary would have to be Native Rosemary (Westringia Fruticosa) and dwarf clumping bamboos such as Palm/Tiger Grass.

It is a favorite of Bees. So recommended for amatuer Bee keepers to grow in their gardens. Or just for anyone who wants lots of flowers. But maybe stick to the garden for safety.
