what would you get if you breed a spilt fawn plumhead with a normal bird as the fawn is autosomal recessive ?

In A-R mutations

Split to Normal --> 50% splits, which are unidentifiable and thus is not a good pairing

Such a pairing would only be recommended in a desperate situation where the split carried the only available mutant gene . .

And it would be a long hard road to get a 'coloured' bird from that situation

Until you become familiar with genetics, you should 'cut & paste' any replies to genetics questions and keep them as a reference

Shouldn't that be 25%?

50% is correct. 25% Split Cocks, 25% Split Hens, 25% Normal Cocks & 25% Normal Hens = 100% possible split

They are sex linked not auto recessive

I'm pretty sure they are autosomal recessive fawn. Most sexlinked mutations are cinnamon.

I would not know - but will do the Devils Advocate - fawn zebra finches are sex linked.
