An OPTIMIST bird keeper walks up to the aviary and looks UP at the perch to see what young have fledged.
The PESSIMIST bird keeper walks up to the aviary and looks DOWN on to the ground to see what has died.

I always look down first. Always thought that meant I was a trouble shooter.
Head soon goes up once the floor is clear though.

Only one fledgling left.
On the bright side that youngster is getting around the aviary no problem.

I look down too. Especially in my finch aviary.
Although today when I walked out I did a quick heah count as i do every day and couldn't see one of my conures in the flight. On more of a look I was releived to see him high up on a perch. When it came to feeding that pair I looked up and saw that although he was on a perch he was not well. Some obvious critical signs there so it was off to the hospital cage and to the vet if he doesn't improve in the next few hours.
Point is, looking up first may still give you heart break.

I look down first, after the snake incursions of this summer I'm not risking "putting a foot wrong". :petrified:
