sorry to hear mate,

can you supply a little more info?

are the birds all in the same aviary?

did you find them dead? or were they sick and died over a few days?

what signs were they showing if they were sick?

misso :)

I'm thinking egg binding. As it is all hen birds. I have about 100 finches in the same cage. And no problems. What do you do about egg binding?

Hi Tigerfan,

Sorry to hear about your losses.

obviously could be one of many things...if it is hens with young in the nest I would suggest it is not egg binding...what about air sac mites...but seems odd it's just the hens...do your avairies have a fully enclosed roof...any dampness on the floor....how long do you leave your sprouted seed in the aviairy for...could it be a fungal infection.....even though they showed now signs of sickness prior to dying, the added stress of breeding may have compounded a problem that was already there, but you may not have noticed it....any thoughts on having one of the birds examined by an avian vet?

Cheers
Paul
