Just wanted to share that as of eleven this morning, I have three baby gouldians :D :D :D
Apparently the last two months of feeding soaked seed have paid off.
The parents are both stunning show quality YH normals, so it will be interesting to see how these will turn out.
Haven't had baby finches for so long... Very excited!!
:D

Thanks Gary :D
I've been thinking about trying to refine the YH birds I have to try and get it so they produce only yellow heads, without mutations or RH/BH popping up... First step forward :)

Good work J, hard work and patience do pay off.

I'm trying to do the same with the YH, but believe me, it's not a small undertaking. You shouldn't get any RH, but may get BH, WB, YB (aus or euro) etc etc. I plan to test breed some of this seasons young against BHWB next year, to see if any are splits. I will then have to figure out who is split, who is normal, who is related and so on. THEN I have to find more "pure" birds to put with the ones I know are pure! Makes me tired just thinking about it.

Thanks guys :D
Rip64, unfortunately no, sadly I lost that one in January.
On the plus side, the new hen is actually nicer than the old one!! Plus she's mated to a YH not a RH like the old one. So if they fledge (touch wood can't be too careful ;-) ) I'd be happy for you to have a hen (if there is one) :)
Not sure how I'd get it to you though.
Spanna  even just reading that gave me a headache!! Have to do some more research.

Well done Jay! exciting isn't it? we have two clutches fledged and one more to come. We were also aiming to refine the YH ones, but hubby's love for a YB hen and some birds likely to be split have led a real mix - AY, YB, dilutes (or SFY, still don't get the difference!) and normals split to goodness knows what... :? Shame as we have a nice cockbird and two hens not too bad....
