I'm new to this forum and as of this year, new to breeding gouldians. Growing up I used to breed nutmegs, crimson, zebras and double bar finches, as well as rainbow lorries, pigeons, peach faces and budgies. After about a 15 year break I decided this year it was time to get back into it, and where better to start than with the most beautiful finch of them all, the Gouldian.
I have an outdoor aviary with 2 pairs of black heads. I have been successful with one pair who have raised 3 chicks from their first clutch and are on their second clutch of 10 eggs.
I've had many highs and lows so far - I lost one adult (it got eaten by a rat) but now the aviary is cemented and nothing can get in. From the first clutch I lost one chick which fell while hatching (got stuck to the parent as it flew out), one chick was the runt and didn't make it, and one chick fledged too early and I was away on holidays so it died. But 3 survived and are now fully weaned.

Hopefully this second clutch will be even better.
