Bit dissapointed with DNA solutions at the moment . Cheque cleared over a week ago so would have expected an email by now with results .
Waiting on snail mail now . Really want him /her paired off before August .

I'm gonna go out on a limb  and say any red rump hen that doesn't bite and bite hard is a cock. I've never not donned leather gloves for the hen, sometimes OK not to with a cock. Need to see face straight on to reliably sex by beak and head width.

My *very well known Melbourne based bird vet* no longer uses them, says timing and accuracy of results too unreliable, always uses the South African crowd now and doesn't charge any more for the test than they charge him (but charges a consultation fee to take the blood so I always take him a batch of birds to even out the cost).

Yes the old myth that a hen parrot bites harder than a male is so true . I don't put gloves on and as such have a nice little collection of triangular scars on my hands from mainly the Quarrion and Red Rumps .
Stanleys are up there on the list of biters too.

I aGREE WITH NATAMAMBO-i have a number of different parrots-my love being the lovebird and lovebird hens are the biters, whereas the males scream more than anything if you get hold of them but dont bite.
I am a member of the Australian lovebird society-which i recently joined and they have a system with DNAíng where they send batches of member feathers/blood out to Curtin University and members are charged only $10-i havent used this system yet cos i think the secretary waits for a certain amount to gather up before he sends them out but its really cheap and if i am not in a hurry i will use them, so i will let anyone know next time i do...but i normally use DNA solutios and only have had minor problems-all my results have been true and they only charge i think about $16 or $15 depending on how many you have.
