Bird Cage !! 001.jpg
Hi All,
Recently i built a small aviary and put 3 pairs of Gouldians in it. As the birds were previously inside and weren't in the breeding mood.
Since i put the birds in the aviary they are all looking at wanting to breed. As i used to breed a few canaries in spring,[ Even i know its not spring yet ]
I was thinking that spring would be the ideal time to breed the Gouldians, As the weather is warmer and they could have the babies before the real hot weather set's in ?? [ Jan, Feb , March ] Just thought i would ask if anyone on here if they have tried to breed them in spring ??
Cheers Freddy

As the canary cocks are whistling their heads off here maybe the birds are ahead of us.

With all this weather changing anything is possible, The birds today are all right into the breeding scene.
As the Gould's in the avairy hav'nt had any young ones this year, Im going to let them breed if they want.
I had them paired up inside and they should have been done for Fraud, [ All the sign are there but nothing happened ]
If they do they do and if not , well as long as they are all healthy and happy thats all that matters !!

Cheers Freddy

just keep in mind they like to molt late spring, if you want them to breed now give them greens everyday, that should encourage them :)

Mine are on their second clutch for the year, apparently not fazed by the whole cold night thing. Then again, days here are sunny and nice :)

Hi All,
At the moment i have 3 pairs on eggs, 1pair AY- EY on 8 eggs, 2 pair of normal on a total of 16 eggs, 10 in one nest !!
They are due any day now, The birds arn't showing signs of moulting just yet , I'm aware of putting stress on breeding birds that are moulting.
None of the Goulds had any babies during the winter, but i will take the nest boxes out at the end of the month.
So fingers crossed i get a few bubs.
If i get a few AY- EY bubs i might try and swap a few with someone with similar breeding.
Cheers Freddy :shh:
