New to Bird Shows

Hi, I have not been to a bird sale before and I am thinking of going tomorrow. My female cordon I have had for 5 years I found dead yesterday and her mate is looking very upset. I plan to buy a female, I rang the Living Jungle at Ramsgate and they wanted $70 for one. Is this the going price?? Do they only take cash????

It's worth going if only to have a look. I'd say $70 for a pair of cordons is more like what breeders at the sale will sell them for so expect to pay abot $40 for a hen. I'm taking cordons and I know another friend is also so there should be a few about. Breeders will all want cash but the trade stands usually have credit card facilities.

Does that mean that the cock bird is 5 years old as well? Might be worth retiring him to the holding cage and getting a young pair. In saying that it is hard seeing a single bird on their own.

thanks for your replies, if I come I will come and say hello Sam. My male cordon is about 3 1/2 yrs old they have always laid eggs but they never ever hatched. I will buy a female don't care if they breed just want her for company for the male. Hope to see some finch forum people there.

If you could be feel like driving two and a half hours each way, you are welcome to have one.

Thanks Matt, We usually go to Canberra a couple of times a year but we are flat out and have'nt got time at the moment. Thanks so much for your offer though, I think I am going to go to the Castle Hill Bird Show and see if they have any. Thanks again.

I know I am in Vic, so a little different, but the Cordons I have seen in pet stores are all about $80 for a hen, or $150 for a pair. The private breeders I have seen advertised have been far cheaper (and you would be able to ask more q's about what you are getting!)

This page will give you a rough idea of dates and times but you will have to check the dates as sometimes its not always updated regularly.

This forum did have a calendar but the ad-on wouldnt work with the new upgrade. Once I have the newsletter done I will try and work something out so upcoming shows, sales, auctions etc can at least be posted in one area.
