Hi,

I went over to China for Work a couple of weeks ago and made a point of visiting the Cagebird Markets in both of the cities that I went to. It was an excellent experience and was wonderful to be a nose distance away from some species that I may never see again. My wife was sour that I diddnt spend enough time sightseeing or shopping but to do this was at the top of my list aside from seeing some native finches such as the White Bellied Munia but I didnt get outside of the cities so that was not an option.....maybee next time if there is one..

So will try and post some pics but to get started I took this video of a birdshop keeper hand rearing baby silvereyes. I suspect they are big on handraising the birds so they keep better in the small cages which is a cultural thing for them.

The bird market would have been much more interesting than shopping - besides if you go shopping here everything is still made in China!

Probably more S.E.M's in that cage than in Oz :irked:

I would probably have gotten in trouble with hubby for too much time in the bird markets if I was in your shoes too.
Shopping you can do anywhere. :shh:

Sadly all the Mesias seem to be males destined for a small cage as a pet.

Beautiful birds but sad to see them in small cages.
What are the birds in the first pic? Stunning colouring.

Hi BB,
They're silver-eared mesias, and a lot better coloured than most of the ones I've seen here-typical of wild-caught birds I guess, not to mention regional variations.
Nice Niltavas too. Thanks for posting AB!
