Well according to our helpers she hasn't been back all day. I know she only cost me PhP30 (about 90c now) but it's as close to having bred as I've seen any one do here and that includes the zoo! I guess I will have to be a drain on the system for a little longer. Anyway I've got the chain now to put netting over the access hatch to the feeding station so I will be more prepared this time - as long as I put it up and don't just think about it.

Well I got hold of some more spice finches. They are still colouring up but that won't make a difference trying to make a pair since they all look the same! The seller told me they were aviary bred but wouldn't offer me a receipt so I guess they aren't. They are already calling to the cockbird in the other aviary from the quarantine cage but I guess they won't be ready to breed for at least six months. My old male keeps adding to his nest and has pulled half the feathers out of the wire cage I presented them in and rather than use them has strewn them all over the floor. I'm glad he doesn't drink!

Good luck with the spice finches.
And sorry to hear about the escape.
And I know my birds talk to me :D sometimes I even answer
The Cubans are particularly conversational "Haven't you forgotten our grass?" "It's alright I'm going back out to get it" "Well I should jolly well think so too"
