Hi all,
For the last little while I've been thinking of making "avi-cards". I got the idea from a wildlife card deck I bought, and I though making some playing-card-size cards with a nice picture of the bird on the front, and some very basic info on the back (name, habitat, cage/aviary/both, preferred breeding receptacle and preferred food source). Does anyone else think they'd be of any use? I was thinking they'd make good quick-referral things for bird sales and such.
Example - gouldian finch
Name gouldian finch, chloebia gouldiae
Habitat - grassland, subtropical
Housing - cage/aviary
Nest - Nest-Box
Main food source - seed
Or Superb Fairy-wren
Name - Superb Fairy-wren, Malurus Cyanus
Habitat - bush land, low scrub, urban
Housing - planted aviary
Nest - brush or living plant
Main food source - insects
Avi-cards

That's a good idea Henry
I was thinking no bigger than pocket sized, so people could carry it around easily in a crowded sale.
My main point was, I've been in contact with quite a few people recently who've purchased birds and know absolutely nothing about them - which can be terrible for the birds welfare. So I was thinking something like this could be useful, you just grab it from your pocket, skim through, yep, eats seed, can be put in a cage, breeds in a box, good to go (or not, as the cas may be.
Also, I should make it clear I'm not encouraging impulse buying - but it happens to all of us on occasion, so why not make it a bit more controlled?
Also it could be a useful ID tool. Some people confuse saints for redbrows, or simply have no idea what something is. That's not a criticism, just an observation.

Another few important point to add to your card
would be whether its compatabile with other finches/birds
Does haveto be housed as single pairs or can be kept as colonies
Ie. Cubans card have notes cant be housed with blue or yellow coloured finches.

Jay this is a good idea especially for new people to certain birds. This could be a useful tool at sales due to there being alot of different birds there. You could also add things such as compatibility in mixed colonies or only single pairs together. You may even add tips such as Green foods that are liked.

So many good ideas
I was thinking at least putting a pair of the species on the front, pair & Juvenile would be even better
