Last wednesday I came home to my best hecks hen on the floor of the aviary, I picked her up and figured she needed to go in the hospital cage . The next day she was 200 % better passed a egg and was bouncing around the cage.
here where stupidity kicks in , I was kind of impatient to put her back in the main cage , but insted of taking the whole hospital cage to a enclosed enviornment I decided to do it there and then, just in a split second she darts out the door to the big aviary . I must say I did use quite a few naughty words as I see her fly off. so I bolted to the main cage and opened the walk way hoping that her mate would call her in, no luck and last night and today and tonight we will be having some rather crappy weather so I am betting she wishes she was back in the aviary.
So I am hoping I can catch her up tomorrow if she is still around. I know iots only a finch that would cost 30 or 40 dollars but it still made my heart stop for a split second, so heres to luck tomorrow .. pete

Good Luck, Pete.
If she has a mate and she survives, she'll be back.

Good Luck in catching her if she comes back.....maybe you need a trap as well as safety door?

Sorry to hear this Pete
one of my longtails escaped a few years back, she came back to the cage for her mate a few times but I was too slow with the net. Hope you have better luck!!!

I'm sure you'll catch her, about 6 weeks ago I had a breeding pair of White-winged Wrens with one of their young escape and were flying all over the place for half a day, they went across the road, they came back, they flue to all three neighbors behind my property as well as the next door neighbors, I thought that was it but by about mid-day I had them all back in the aviary
All I did is put some mealworms and a bit of egg and biscuit in a small dish in a small canary cage and used the old string and a stick trick.
