Hi All,

I have seen some for sale never kept any before. They are uncommon in NZ

What are they like to keep ?

Any special diet required ?

My mate said you can't keep any other Dove species with them. But hope I can still keep some Finches with them.

I was going to look at getting a pair and a spare hen.

Cresteds are very easy to keep. They are basically a seed eater and will eat almost any type of seed and are a tough, hardy species. Their wings make a curious whistling sound when they fly. They might be a bit big for finches to cope with initially but most will get used to them as they are harmless. Good breeders.

Thanks Tintola

I heard also there best to be kept to 1 Pair per aviary as cockbirds are nasty to each other. Is that right ?

Also what are Bleeding Heart Pigeons like to keep,Diet, can they be kept with other doves etc.

Two cock Cresteds will fight somewhat depending on the size of the aviary. Bleeding hearts are pretty much the same but require some soft food to rear young successfully (peas, corn, soaked dog food or live food)
